about

Sky Divide is a metal band based out of the Greater Seattle area. Starting as the side project of Jordan Riles and James Waldrop, Sky Divide quickly became an entity worthy of full time commitment. They enlisted the help of long-time friends, the Jays, Reach and Sheeler to fill out the instrumental roster. Blending elements of Metalcore and Djent with post-hardcore ambience, the quartet found a sound all their own. They set out to find a vocalist that could do the songs justice. By sheer chance, Aaron Newman had sent a recording of his solo project to Jordan just as they entered the studio. Recording all of the vocal tracks from Kansas and sending them to Ahren Lanfor at Real Art Tacoma, Aaron’s impassioned screams and emotional cleans brought new life to the Clarity EP.

Track Name: First Light
Aching to return to the sky (just a part of the whole)
And this hole in me is caused by separation
How many years gone by, since last I was held in the light
I’ve been begging for peace of mind
Will it come before I return, home, to, the blinding light
Promise you’ll follow where I lead, follow me
I swear you’ll thank me, when we’re enveloped by the collective
Here is where we find peace
An escape from reality, here is where the heart is
Home, there’s no place like home
But there’s no brick road to set us free
We must look to ourselves
The answers lie within
Don’t look around for what you need
The parasites will feed off of your desires
Could I remember devotion, or spend my life searching for what’s missing
Could I remember devotion, devote my life to searching for what will make me feel whole.
You cast your stones though you are not without sin
Your body houses brittle bones and no soul within
And everything that you love will fall apart in the end
When you look in the mirror everything that you see
Is a careful calculation, for the world to perceive
You try to hide your eyes
Your windows to the soul
But we are the same you and I
It’s time to transcend the boundaries of your mind
With hope you’ll join us on the bright side
I don’t want you to be stuck on the outside looking in
I hope it’s not too late
It’s too late, it’s too late, it’s too late.
Track Name: Dead Air
Is this a test of will? When every bond I have formed was only meant to be broken.
I had a dream, I had a vision, where everything fell apart, right through my hands
Frantically gathering pieces, but they don’t fit like they used to
I’m left with nothing to remember how it felt to live, now I simply exist. Simply exist
Ignite the fire I once had, I remember an all-consuming blaze, it’s been replaced by reality
But still, I feel the embers in my chest, just show me a way to light my flame
Lead me out of the darkness
Can I rise, from the ashes of the past, was this body built to last
It’s only a matter of time, before I am lost to the world
I’m slowly fading, losing sight of who I was, who I’m supposed to be
Dig me out of the ashes (dig me out of the ashes)
I know I’m buried deep
I need you now more than ever (need you now more than ever)
I need you to save me
This life seeks to break us apart, but I believe we will get through this
With every broken bridge I look to mend, I see the other side, Reaching out
But am I capable, of swallowing pride to except their hand.
Another defining moment has been brought life and all the other people I’d hoped to see
Your face is the only one, not staring back at me, not staring back at me
Oh won’t you turn around and face me
Track Name: Denouement
A once great nation, built on the backs of patriots, is sinking
Never expecting decaying to be our new pastime
Given little in the way of hope we’re changing
Becoming frail, without hope we’re blind
The change starts within, together we will dig ourselves out
I have felt the sting of promise and lies
In time, dust will replace us all, sit back and watch it fall, or can we change course
Our minds change like seasons and winter will bring death in its wake
But there can still be summer, provided we make the necessary change
There is no greater distance than that with which we are faced with now
Yet blinding persistence, will lead us across this barren earth
I’ve seen in my dreams, a land in which I am proud
Such is not the land I see, not the land I see now
In time
Dust will replace us all
Sit back and watch it fall
But brick by brick, we’ll dismantle the houses of liars
We’ll wade through the flood of deceit
In time, dust will replace us all, sit back and watch it fall, or can we change course
Our minds change like seasons and winter will bring death in its wake
But there can still be summer, provided we make the necessary change
Track Name: Modern Grave
We must learn to separate our hearts from the world, refuse to be a victim, a casualty of the times
Oh won’t you open your eyes
Oh modern grave release me from fear, though I accept my fate I will not settle for a hole in the earth
Oh modern grave release me, though I accept my fate I will not settle for a hole in the earth
Trace the lines of my life, you’ll see I was a good man and though my time is slipping I remember it fondly
This season stings, as some are buried with their dreams and we watch them roll out with the tide, under moonlight and I will be waiting.
Pull back my skin, to let these demons out, there’s a ghost where my soul should be and darkness is all that I see
So frail are we easily broken by our surroundings how do we change a turning tide.
The sunrise spells the end can we survive another day under these same skies
With labored breath we run from the past, but the end is still the same
And I remember how easily spirits crush and disappear beneath the sea
This season stings as some are buried with their dreams and we watch them roll out with the tide under moonlight and I will be waiting
For you, in the depths of the ocean, still waiting to see your face
In the end we will be crushed by the weight of the decisions that we didn’t make. Blegh.
Track Name: The Letdown
We used to walk these city streets, for the hours that the sun slept this town was ours
But life is mysterious, separated my fate, my brother
Where do you go when the chips are down, what do you do when there’s no one around
Playing with iron and fire
I wasn’t born a saint, your demons don’t make you a sinner, it’s what you do in the face of defeat that shows, the man you really are.
You ran away, with a needle in your arm, I know you’re better than that
These words aren’t even worth saying, you’re in love with the downfall
Seeking punishment for crimes you didn’t commit, your own judge and jury
This song is everything I wish I’d said, if even just one word could save you, I’d say it again and again, again and again
My brother can we turn back the time, won’t you speak the truth and tell me what is on your mind
You gave me so much, you showed me how to feel alive, and every breath I take I owe entirely to you
I just wish you could have seen the light within yourself, you always shone so bright
I know the fight within you, we faced the battle hand in hand, I used to reflect on the dark days, the reasons I threw you away, but now I just want my friend back.
At least you got away
What killed you wasn’t the poison in your veins, you simply shone far too bright to stay and as that old quote you lived by used to say, it’s better to burn out than to fade away.
Track Name: Youngblood
I have traveled the world in search of purpose, yet I still don’t have a reason
And I still don’t know my place in the world before me
Desperately craving connection, to fill the void left by the absence of everyday, knowing where I stand
I’m not too sure anymore
At the time I felt trapped, but since my release I yearn to go back
We stood, shoulder to shoulder each one of us knowing that we would die for the other
We started as strangers, trained in the mud, running towards danger, we’ll wade through the flood, my brothers and sisters, shoulder to shoulder, shoulder to shoulder
If I should die, then leave a quarter on my grave because I swear that you will always be with me
Shed not a tear, it wasn’t your life to save, I’ve waged this war since the day I was born
Losing ground every step of the way
Y o u n g b l o o d
Y o u n g b l o o d
Youngblood, won’t you lend me your ear I been where you stand, I’ve felt what you’re feeling now.
It’s time to say it’s over, I’ve accepted my fate
Won’t you leave me alone, the pain is too much to bear
And the answer is not here with me, here with me.
We started as strangers, trained in the mud, running towards danger, we’ll through the flood, my brothers and sisters, shoulder to shoulder, shoulder to shoulder.
Track Name: Clarity
I awoke in a cold sweat, crippled by my thoughts, just another night inside my head
Can I learn to bear the weight of my mortality
I thought that I was strong but even mountains erode when met with a mighty wind
When will sleep come, another night spent waiting to see the sun
Another day where I go through the motions, not even knowing where I am
I pray for a quite mind, when I can hear the earth breathe
Just a moment where I’m void of emotion, a fleeting serenity
A brief reprieve
I pray for silence, when I can hear myself think, but I am always around
And I would wait forever, just to sleep through the night, but all this tossing and turning is bringing my demons to life
And I succumb to the whims of the shadows
How do I think that I can survive another night when my only ally is my mind
Turncoat, lead me not into the slaughter, the slaughter.

We are nothing more than fragments of our former selves
Given way to time, I no longer feel whole in the whole of humanity
Looking for any reason to escape this monotony
But life is a current dragging me into oblivion
Perhaps I’ll sleep when I’m dead, or this could be my hell
Doomed to wonder in ever present isolation
Or this could be my hell, this could be (I’ve been trapped here before) my hell (this could be my hell)
And I will resurrect every memory inside
